Wow, small world.

Sharon, you daughter will walk away with an amazing experience of school and the country (Australia). Yes, there are incidents (not all kids are like that) but the vast majority of kids at BCC are wonderfully loyal, caring and actually very funny. Not to mention staff, they are (again, the vast majority of them) simply amazingly collegiate and supportive! Your daughter will get a lot more out of this school than going to some 'all-goodie-wonderful' (on the surface, many of them!) school.

I wish your daughter all the very best, I hope the surface doesn't 'blind' her (including this post!) but see through to kids and people at this school.

Best wishes

After reading your description of Belmont College I will worry more and sleep less while my daughter is there doing her student teaching. Hopefully the prayers of her friends and family a half a world away will keep her safe. I hope she will get to experience some of the beauty of Australia while she is there...... and maybe she will also make a difference to some student(s).

Wow.

Tomaz, I don't envy the daily challenges you face one bit, but these students will, by the time they leave your school, realise how influential a teacher you have been for them. Engagement is the key. What brings about that engagement is going to be different for different students, but it certainly isn't going to be "turn to page 46 of your textbook". Any help you can get from ICT resources has to be worthwhile, but as you say, it take commitment from your fellow teachers to invest their time into making it happen in the classroom. I wish you and your school the best for an education-filled 2010.
